French Avenue Masterclass

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, message us — we answer on WhatsApp within the day.

Do I need any French before I start?

Not for the Beginners class. We start at the alphabet and the sounds, and no school background in French is assumed. For O/L and A/L classes you should already have the level below the one you are joining, and we will check that with you before you enrol.

Can I join in the middle of a term?

Usually yes. Call us and we will tell you where the current batch has reached and whether it makes more sense to join now or wait for the next start date. We would rather you started in the right place than paid for a class you cannot follow.

What happens if I miss a class?

Tell us in advance where you can. For online classes we can usually share the recording; for physical classes we will go over what you missed at the start of the next session or arrange a short catch-up.

Are online classes the same as the physical ones?

Same syllabus, same teacher, same materials. Online classes run live on Zoom, so you can ask questions and do speaking practice exactly as you would in the room. The only difference is that online students get the recording afterwards.

How much are the classes?

Fees depend on the class and whether you attend online or in person, so we go through it with you directly rather than publishing a single figure that would be wrong for most people. Call or WhatsApp us and we will tell you the fee, the batch times and the next start date.

How big are the classes?

Small enough that your writing gets corrected individually and you speak in every lesson. We cap each batch rather than filling the room.

Do you teach in Sinhala or in French?

French from the first lesson, with explanations in Sinhala or English wherever they make something clearer. The aim is that nothing is lost because of the language of instruction — especially with grammar.

Is there a trial class?

Talk to us. We would rather you sat in once and knew it suited you than enrolled and found out later.

Which level should I aim for?

For O/L, B1 is a realistic target. For A/L, B2. For most Canadian migration streams and many European university programmes, B2 is the level that actually scores. We will talk through which one fits what you are trying to do.

Do you teach adults, or only school students?

Both. The Beginners and Tourism classes are mostly adults; the O/L and A/L classes are school students.

Where exactly are the classes held?

Samadhi Institute Gampaha on Mondays, Samadhi Institute Kurunegala on Saturdays, and KCB Institute Udugampola on Wednesdays. The online class runs in the evenings and is open to anyone in Sri Lanka.
